A long history in the ACT

The Canberra Radio Club was established in 1951 at the orginal ABC radio studios in Canberra.

On the 1st of June 1956, amateurs resident in the ACT were issued with VK1 prefixes to their call signs.

In 1957 The Canberra Radio Club became the Canberra Radio Society.

The VK1 Division of the WIA was formed in 1973 and following the formation of the National WIA in May 2004 the VK1 Division was dissolved to become the Canberra Region Amateur Radio Club Inc.

The Canberra Region Amateur Radio Club is the principal amateur radio club in the ACT and has one of the highest rates of membership per amateur of any State/Territory in Australia.
